Don Weirauch, Fish Dispersion Czar, files this report on last Monday’s stocking on the Carson River…
A very big thank you to all of you that were able to break away this morning and come out to help stock fish on the East Carson River!
For those of you who could not make it, this by far was our best attended fish stocking to date since the club volunteered to help NDOW get fish in the river above broken dam! The greatest thing about it was that this time of year many of our members and local residents families are in the area visiting so we had, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, aunts, uncles, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, grandma’s and grandpa’s and anything else you can name.. able to show up to help out.
Due to the high run-off this year and the erosion at the raft haul out area, we actually had to cantilever our “fish dispersion apparatus” out over a 5’ drop-off in order to get the little buggers into the water safely. The fish were flying and the kids were cackling! Some of us got wet, some of us didn’t. Things just don’t get much better.
A very big thank you also needs to go out to Doug “Abracadabra” Anderson and the staff at the Mason Valley hatchery. Their willingness to trust that we will have volunteers there to get fish in the water when they say they are going to be there is huge! Today, we didn’t have just volunteers… we had a volunteer army!
Below are some pictures courtesy of Mrs. Claire Bauer, bona-fide fly-fisher and damn classy lady! (my captions though, so don’t blame Claire…)
Thanks again to all who were able to participate! We’ll keep you posted for the next time when NDOW call’s for volunteers.
Now get those kids out there and get some of those fish!
