Reminder – High Sierra Fly Casters 2010 Fundraiser This Saturday!

It’s the time to start thinking about spring fishing, to get out to the lingering snow patches and the new green along the stream banks, and to feel the occasional icy breeze that reminds us of winter but is really a sign of spring.

What better way to get into the spirit than by spending an evening with a bunch of like minded anglers in a friendly social setting?

The High Sierra Fly Casters Annual Fundraiser is a great way to do this. There’s a great barbecue, Liz and Don Weirauch’s slide show of the past year’s catches and events, live music by Linda Sandstrom, and a well stocked bar.

There’s a silent auction, raffles for some nice stuff, and a door prize. There is no guest speaker or formal program, so there’s nothing to interfere with a friendly drink, some conversation, and a little story telling.

The money we make is used to promote quality fly fishing, educational programs, and to support events such as fishing retreats for cancer patients.

So if you would like to join us come to the CVIC Hall on Saturday March 6th. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased at The Angler’s Edge at 1506 Highway 395 in Gardnerville. The no-host bar opens at 5:30 p.m., dinner is at 7:00 p.m., and seating is limited so if you want to go get your tickets early.

Important – The HSFC Annual Dinner is Rescheduled for March 6!

Due to a scheduling conflict made by the C.V.I.C. Hall in Minden, the date of the HSFC Annual Dinner has been moved from March 13 to March 6. The times remain unchanged – no host cocktails begin at 5:30 p.m. and dinner is served starting at 7:00 p.m. So, please update your social calendar accordingly and inform any fellow club members you happen to run into of the change. Tickets will be available at the February General Meeting and can be purchased at The Angler’s Edge.

Rivers of a Lost Coast Playing in Truckee Feb. 11

Come see the award-winning film that has caught the attention of fly fishers nationwide. Rivers of a Lost Coast focuses on the heyday of steelhead fly fishing along the California coast, covering the personalities, conflicts, and drama of the sport there. The executive producer, Justin Coupe, will be on hand to answer questions (weather permitting).

When: Thursday, February 11, 2010; 6:30PM No-host cocktails, film begins at 7:00PM
Where: Cedar House Sport Hotel, 10918 Brockway Road, Truckee (the hotel is located a short distance south of downtown Truckee)
Donation: $10 to the Squaw Valley Institute. No charge for children and students with ID

Presented by the Squaw Valley Institute; co-hosted by California Fly Fisher magazine and the Truckee River Watershed Council.
