Greetings from the I.T. Depatment at the HSFC Data Center, hidden deep inside a non-descript concrete building somewhere in the 89511 ZIP Code. For security reasons, of course, we can’t divulge our exact location even though <del datetime="2010-01-18T01:35:52+00:00">armed security is</del> two cats are on patrol 24/7/365. We were formerly based in the abandoned outhouse at Rosaschi Ranch but were forced to move when we realized we had no electricity or telephone service.

Now for the important stuff…

We’re channging the the way we capture email addresses for our active club members. Up until now, we’ve manually added folks to the Web site’s database. The problem with this method is that we actually don’t know if we’ve got the address right until someone complains that they’re not receiving our emails. So, we’re changing things up a bit.

You’ll notice a subscription form on the right side of the menu just below the USGS stream flows. Please take a minute to enter your first name, your last name and your email address. Then, click the ‘Subscribe’ button. You’ll quickly receive a confirmation email; you’ll need to open it and click the confirmation link contained within. And, bingo, you’re done – the entire process takes about two minutes (about the same amount of time it takes Liz to tie 10 woolly buggers).

To those of you that receive your newsletter via U.S. Mail: Previously, we’ve been able to withold the newsletter notification back from you. We can’t do that any more, so you’ll get that email once a month. Don’t worry, though – your newsletter will still be delivered by Uncle Sam.

So, thank you for your time, and please take a couple of minutes to sign up. Should you have any questions or problems, please feel free to email admin@hsfc.us (a.k.a. Ken Bladwin). Or, you can chat with me at the dinner Saturday night – I’ll be the good looking guy behind the bar.

It’s the time to start thinking about spring fishing, to get out to the lingering snow patches and the new green along the stream banks, and to feel the occasional icy breeze that reminds us of winter but is really a sign of spring.

What better way to get into the spirit than by spending an evening with a bunch of like minded anglers in a friendly social setting?

The High Sierra Fly Casters Annual Fundraiser is a great way to do this. There’s a great barbecue, Liz and Don Weirauch’s slide show of the past year’s catches and events, live music by Linda Sandstrom, and a well stocked bar.

There’s a silent auction, raffles for some nice stuff, and a door prize. There is no guest speaker or formal program, so there’s nothing to interfere with a friendly drink, some conversation, and a little story telling.

The money we make is used to promote quality fly fishing, educational programs, and to support events such as fishing retreats for cancer patients.

So if you would like to join us come to the CVIC Hall on Saturday March 6th. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased at The Angler’s Edge at 1506 Highway 395 in Gardnerville. The no-host bar opens at 5:30 p.m., dinner is at 7:00 p.m., and seating is limited so if you want to go get your tickets early.
