High Sierra Fly Casters is a service club with a fishing problem.
What does the club do?
We fish, we eat!
We conduct conservation projects on our local waters.
We have angler education activities including demonstrations and clinics on fly fishing technics, fly tying and more.
We have a mentor program where we pair up someone who wants to learn something with someone who might be able to teach something.
We host and support many service programs, such as Reel Recovery, Reel Kids, Reel Vets, and Trout in the Classroom.
We meet to share our fishing stories and otherwise be social.
How club offer fish outings?
We hold fish outing, which we call fish outs, through the year. Occasionally our fish outs include camping. See our calendar for current schedule of events. We often eat before, during or after fish outs.
How often does the club meet?
The club has typically has a general meeting once per month. Some months the meeting is replaced by another activity, such our annual dinner or picnic. We also take breaks in December and July. See our calendar for current schedule of events.
When and where do you meet?
General meetings are usually held on second Wednesday of the month at the Tahoe-Douglas Elks Lodge. Doors open at 6:30pm for social until program starts at 7:00pm. Meeting location and times may vary. Check the calendar for meeting details and stay tuned to our announce mailing list for change notices. Visitors are welcome.
What happens at the meetings?
Usually we have a speaker who tells us how to catch more fish — whether they catch any or not;
A raffle of fly fishing items;
Updates on where to fish, club activities, outings, service programs and conservation projects;
Lots of backslapping, yarn spinning and good fellowship.
Is bragging okay?
Sure. You are encouraged to brag at general meetings and on our Facebook chat group.
How do I join?
For details, see Join! Then we'll teach you the secret handshake.
What's the secret handshake?
If we told you it wouldn't be a secret.
How do members keep up on club news?
They subscribe to our announce mailing list and/or follow us on Facebook. Listening at meetings might help too.
Do members ever get skunked?
Never!
When members talk about fishing, do any of them lie?
Absolutely not! We also never get skunked.
